Description:
One of the keys to teaching students with dyslexia is to be flexible in one's teaching approach, rather than expecting that all students learn in the same way. This is something that I incorporate in my work as a dyslexia tutor in order to find a method that suits the individual student. This combined with my practice of engaging dyslexia students in their learning is what makes my teaching style so effective. When I teach, I always try and find something that a student has done well and acknowledge it. I do this because I'm also trying to build their self-confidence, the way they see themselves and their resilience when it comes to learning. This is important as these can often be an impediment when it comes to learning. Another crucial area I focus on when I teach, is teaching students with dyslexia how to break down tasks into more manageable steps and help them build planning and organisational skills.
